CONNECT THE AMERICAS: EMBARK ON A ROADTRIP TO ARGENTINA TIERRA DEL FUEGO
For instance, nobody has forgotten its return at the Dakar, the famous rally raid that took place in South America. Nor especially the memorable victories of Stéphane Peterhansel in 2016 and 2017, and of Carlos Sainz in 2018 aboard the 2008 and 3008 DKR.
The adventurous spirit of the brand was once again expressed with the organisation of the expedition "Conectando Las Américas" aboard the PEUGEOT LANDTREK pick-up.
This trek from Mexico to Ushuaïa - the world’s most austral city - embarked three crews for an incredible adventure of 17,000 km and 34 days on the South American continent.
After a night's cruise from La Paz back to the mainland, the adventure continued on the Mexican roads, mostly at altitude for instance during the crossing of the Sierra Madre whose peaks reach three thousand metres.
Drivers and vehicles also had to face difficult weather conditions... and long waits in Mexico City traffic jams, one of the most congested cities in the world. An extreme urban adventure in a way! The expedition continued with an off-road version by climbing to the foot of the Popocatepetl volcano at an altitude of 3,700 m.
After 11 days of travel, the crews finally reached Veracruz on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico without damage and were ready to conquer South America!
Even if the trip was often hilly and complicated, again there was an extraordinary view of beautiful and varied landscapes.
The crews travelled through the Antofagasta desert to admire the Hand Monument, the work of Chilean artist Mario Irarrázabal, visited the ghost town of Humberstone, discovered the Lãscar volcano - the most active in the region - and climbed to an altitude of over 2,000 metres to visit the Calama wind farm - one of Chile's leading producers of renewable energy. Our thrill-seekers adventurers even climbed to 4,320 metres to admire the geysers of El Tatio.
New Argentinian drivers took over for this last step of 6,000 km departing from Villa La Angostura in Patagonia. To begin with, the vehicles travelled along the legendary National Route 40 - which crosses the country from North to South - through the seven most beautiful lakes in Argentina.
The driving conditions were sometimes extreme in the snowy region of Bariloche or on the tracks leading to the Perito-Moreno glacier. The observation of the 7000 BC cave paintings at the Cueva de las Manos monument was very impressive.
This wonderful human and technological adventure ended on a high note with the discovery of Ushuaïa and its breath-taking view.
