Lightweight hybridisation,

the first step towards E-mobility!

With a view to becoming a 100% electric Brand by 2030, PEUGEOT is continuing to electrify its range, making it ever more virtuous and adapted to our needs. Such is the case with Hybrid 48V technology, a newcomer inaugurated on the 3008 and 5008. In city driving, it enables the vehicle to run in 100% electric mode 50% of the time.

Turn your braking into energy!

According to Benoit Trémeau, 48V Hybrid Vehicle Design Manager at Stellantis, this system enables more economical driving by making the most of moments usually lost on a conventional combustion engine vehicle. How does the system work? It's very simple: it's made up of a brand-new 136hp 3-cylinder 1.2 L PureTech petrol engine, specially developed for optimum integration with hybridisation, which is coupled to an innovative 6-speed electrified dual-clutch gearbox that incorporates an electric motor. The whole system is connected to a small 48V battery under the front left seat. During deceleration, the vehicle's kinetic energy is captured and stored in the 48V battery. On re-acceleration, this energy is released via the electric motor. The electric motor can move the car on its own for light loads, or complement the internal combustion engine to reduce fuel consumption or improve performance. Recover then restore: this system is doubly virtuous!

A smoother ride

In practice, the driving experience is unchanged from that of a combustion-powered vehicle. In town, however, you can adopt an adapted driving style that will maximise the zero-emission phases. You can achieve up to 50% electric driving in town. All you have to do is press the gas pedal sparingly when starting or restarting, and anticipate obstacles and other slowdowns by using the regenerative brake to dispense with the brakes while recharging the 48V battery. By playing the game, in particular by fine-tuning your driving style thanks to the energy flows indicated on the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit,  you can save up to 15% fuel on average, and even up to 30% in town. And that's it, you don't need to recharge!

Technology for everyone

Whatever your lifestyle, 48V hybridisation will adapt to you. From short to long journeys, it will automatically ensure that you consume less. This system will eventually be available on all vehicles in the range, replacing automatic petrol engines. It's the ideal first step towards electrification, while emitting less CO2. If you want to go even further down the road to electrification, the plug-in hybrid  and 100% electric  models are for you.

Drive connected!

If you want to drive 100% electric for longer than 48V Hybrid technology allows, the next step is the plug-in hybrid. PEUGEOT already offers powertrains with up to 60 km of zero-emission range on its current 3008. This range means that most people can do without petrol for short daily journeys, especially to work, where companies offer recharging solutions. As for 100% electric vehicles, the current PEUGEOT range already offers the E-208, E-2008, E-Partner and E-Expert and soon up to 700 km with the new E-3008, just revealed!
